Reach for the Sky (& Dream Big Regarding Your Money)

Sharing is caring!

“No dreamer is ever too small; no dream is ever too big.”Anonymous

What is it that you would do if money were no object, if it didn’t matter how much you had (or didn’t have)?

If it wasn’t a limiting factor in your life, keeping you from living out your dreams?

If you didn’t have to constantly think about when or if you were going to be able to pay that bill?

Dream big

What are your biggest dreams regarding your money?

Complete this statement. If I had more money or if money were no object, I would____________________.

What would your answer be?

Now, really, think about your answer to that. Would your life look differently?

Obviously, whether we have as much money as we want or not, we can still find plenty of joy, gratitude, and satisfaction in our lives. Don’t get hung up on the negatives that may spring to mind first. Just think about things that would change if money were not a hindrance to your biggest dreams.

Here are some ideas:

If I had more money or money were no object, I would

…take my dream vacation.

…have zero debt and live debt-free.

…buy my dream car.

…buy my dream house.

…put my kids through college without student loans.

…put myself through college.

…quit my job

…volunteer my time to a place that could use the help

…save (or save more) for retirement.

…give more generously to the people and causes I love.

…start my own business doing something I love.

I would…

Have you decided? What is YOUR statement? It may be way bigger than my examples, or it may be something much simpler. But go ahead and allow yourself to think big, and dream big when it comes to your money!

Even if your dream seems currently unreachable, allow your mind to wander there for a while. If that dream came true, how would you feel? Could you breathe more calmly? Be more excited about daily life?

Let’s talk about a dreamer

As I’m thinking about dreams, the author J.K. Rowling comes to mind. If you have ever heard her biography, you know that it’s a real-life rags-to-riches story.

She states she comes from a “difficult family,” and she began writing her “Harry Potter” series only six months before her mother died. Rowling was 25 years old at the time.

Fast forward three years later and she found herself a single mom, jobless, and penniless.

However, despite these, as well as other challenges, she kept writing, dreaming about the story and the characters that had been “fully formed” in her mind from the beginning.

We all know the rest of the story. The “Harry Potter” book series, and the movies based on them, became wildly successful.

J.K. Rowling knew how to dream and hers was obviously a big dream!

Now back to YOUR dreams about your money and your life!

Have you decided on your dream? What you would do if money were no object or if you had as much as you wanted?

No matter how unattainable it seems, allow that dream to fully form in your mind.

Now write it down! Write down that statement somewhere right this moment.

Put it in a prominent place where you will see it often. This can be on the fridge, on your office desk, on your bathroom mirror, etc.

Even go so far as to take a picture of what you wrote with your phone and have that picture with you at all times on your smartphone.

Don’t let that dream slip away!

That is where we start. With a dream. A dream that is YOURS.

Own that dream, and don’t forget it!

If you stay focused on your dream and keep it front and center in your life, you will achieve it one day!

Your story could one day be told just like J.K Rowling’s.

But the first step is to dream, and to dream big!

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” —Jeremiah 29:11

Feel free to share your dream in the comments, and if you’re ready to begin working toward that dream, check out this post.

Until next time, continue to steward intentionally.
